SCTV, 12/10/82 - "Top of the Reactor" - Pt. 1 of 3 - Parody of Irwin Allen's "The Towering Inferno", "The Poseidon Adventure", etc. Guy Caballero arrives at SCTV's new studios, but first makes an appearance at their smaller studio where Deiter, a high strung German director, is attempting to shoot a Western, cattle stampede and all. Guy then proceeds to an exclusive party at the new studio restaurant in the tallest building in the world, atop a nuclear reactor, run by Johnny Nucleo. At the party are Norma Rayburn (the building owner), Gabriel Delray (architect), Mrs. Prickley (and her "double"), Dr. Tongue, Woody Tobias, Jr. (cluelessly chatting up a hooker), and Vinny, who tends to the reactor. Joe Flaherty, John Candy, Martin Short, John Hemphill, Mary Charlotte Wilcox, Andrea Martin and Eugene Levy.

The woman who congratulates Mrs. Rayburn is Alannah Myles. In the late 80s she became a rock star up here in Canada,home of SCTV. Saw the original movie in the 70s,when I was in junior high. SCTV do a great job of shooting new holes in a pretty easy target. Disaster flics deserve to be skewered. But it's all in great fun.
