  • I want to but a travel conga as an accessory for my kit, but I don't know which one to get. I'd like it to be high, yet I fear the highest pitched model may be too toy sounding. Can someone please tell me which one to buy, given that I also plan on buying a full size conga to gon on my right, opposing the travel conga, on my left..

  • Try the standard 11 ¾ (PTC1175) for your kit. You can hear in the video opening above that the PTC1175 can be tuned to 3 distinct pitches making it quite versatile.

  • I am still curious about the sizing of the congas. If the 1175 can be tuned to sound like a quinto, conga and tumba are the other sizes necessary? Or is there a distinct sound difference between the 11, 11.75 and 12.50?

  • Each drum has a tuning range that allows you to comfortable span an octave, so technically you can use just one model for the three different tones. But, each drum has an optimal pitch which will resonate the best. For instance if you tuned the 11 ¾ and 12 ½ in a lower register but to the same pitch, the 12 ½ will resonate and project more. This same formula can apply to all of the sizes.

  • @Chambelona59

They sound killer for what they are!

Nobody said they would soung like a 30 lb conga, mic em up and they sound killer and they're easy

  • Doesn't anybody realize these sound like tin cans... totally unnatural sounding.

  • i'm courious about the performance of these congas in a live street concert, as in carnaval , could it be used to play while walking? and ..will it's sound be loud enough if i have to beat snare drums walking by my side? i'm really interested in knowing this information

  • Just got a tumba...I hear that one should tune the tumba as if you were singing...here, from here comes the bride, the the conga would be tuned a fourth up from that...as in "comes the bride". The quinto would then be tuned a fourth up from that. I also here that one should detune the drum after playing to maintain the life of the head. Not above, that they say...don't tune the drum in bad weather....

  • these conga's really are awesome, I use 'm for shows and for studio work.

Check out my vids to see mine in action

  • sir, how much is the portable conga??? im eager 2 buy 3 pieces

  • I see. Thanks for your reply. This info will help when I go to buy my travel congas. 11, 1175 and 1250 it is then!
