Hi Timmy. The connection is actually a 4 1/2 IF cut on a test piece that is much larger than a standard drill pipe for 4 1/2 IF (which would be about 6 1/4" O.D.). With the 10.75 thru-hole on the TL-4 however, a 7 5/8" F.H. would not be a problem either. GageMaker makes an awesome tool for these standard API connections. It is a software package called TD WIN Taper. It includes specs. on all common rotary shoulder connections. Awesome Stuff. Have a great week.

@HaasLafayette Are you able to cut a 4 1/2 IF box? We're looking at purchasing such a machine to chase various API threads, but I'm concerned about boring bar vibration on HAAS lathes.

@dshylko - Hi. Yes. I have customers that cut 4 1/2 IF Boxes (with and without the optional turret) with no issues. Forget what you know about the old SL series lathes. The TL-4 will cut circles around those machines, and the new ST series slants cut great as well. Haas has decided to make dramatic improvements to their lathe performance, and it shows. Have your local Haas Factory Outlet bring you to one of their customers if possible. Thank you.

hi, i got a TL-3 and i very glad. The company want purchase a TL-4. Do you have an idea how much this amazing machine with 10 automatic turret?. How DOC, feeds and RPM used to make the connection at the taper turning and the threading cycle?. Spindle loads?

Hi Alain. You will want to contact HFO Peru for pricing information, as I am not familiar with exchange rates. I forwarded this to Frank Ramirez of Haas Automation. Rough DOC = .250 to the side at .020 feed. 450 SFM roughing. Threading cycle is 350 RPM, .020 DOC on first pass. No spindle load to speak of. The TL-4 is a threading beast. It is awesome.
