"Notes & Neurons: In Search of the Common Chorus"

Is our response to music hard-wired or culturally determined? Is the reaction to rhythm and melody universal or influenced by environment? Join host John Schaefer, scientist Daniel Levitin and musical artist Bobby McFerrin for live performances and cross cultural demonstrations to illustrate musics note-worthy interaction with the brain and our emotions.

This segment features an impressive display of improvisational harmony from Bobby McFerrin.

This event took place on June 12, 2009 in the Gerald Lynch Theater at the City University of New York. This is the fifth of ten segments.

  • This is really cool, especially like when bobby says "In a world where scientist..." but very interesting the relationship between the brain and our understanding of music.

  • Good lord at 7:00 I'm losing it

  • My opinion part2: If the brain is clear, and well develodep, then it can functioning according to the Natural Law and can hear the sound of the falen tree in the forest. BECAUSE IN THIS CASE, THE BRAIN IS LOCALISED, BUT THE CONSCIOUSNESS IS INFINITY... Unity Consciousness (UC). "If you reach it, then U C!" - Maharishi Mahesh Yogi JGD! :-)

  • My opinion part1: 0:46 "The Sound is a construction of the brain..." I think it was the false vision of the science in the last hundred years. Everything in the Universe is consciousness, intelligence. From this intelligence - in its self-refferal state -, energy vibrations, "sounds" can emerge. These sounds create our energetic and material structures. The individual brain is a standing wave of the energies, sounds of the self-referral state of the consciousness of the individual.

  • ´´ in a world where scientists ´´
