Though this seems to be an old Irish ballad (think THE QUIET MAN), it was actually written in Louisville, KY in 1875 by Thomas P. Westendorf about taking his wife to see her mother in New York. I've heard versions by both Elvis and Johnny Cash.
Man.. That's beautiful. I only just heard about the autoharp a few hours ago, and I'm glad this was the first Youtube video I checked out. I love how it almost sounds like there are multiple instruments involved. With all those strings, that thing must be real rascal to tune lol.
A character, O'Riley, on the Original Star Trek tormented the entire crew by singing this song while under the influence...LOL which was my only previous exposure to this lovely song.
