This is a Russian ship one of the "Nanuchka" class

It's probably a anti air defence ship, I wasn't sure about it, maybe someone can correct me!?

  • Yes indeed Konkordsky is 100% right in everything he says, but I just had to add something! :-)

IMHO, the Nanuchkas are amongst the most elegent looking of all ships commisioned during the coldwar, and with those SS-N-9's could pack quite a punch for their size.

I seem to recall they were used as command ships for flotillas of smaller fast attack boats (Osa and the like), but could be wrong here.

Nice shot of a very nice vessel.

  • It´s really an Anti-Ship Corvette (or a "Small Missile Ship" in Russian type designation). It´s main armament being six SS-N-9 anti-ship missiles.

It´s also carries one SA-N-4 short range anti-aircraft missile launcher, but this is for self defence mainly.

It´s heavily armed and can do a lot of damage for its relative small displacement (750-800 tons), but this small displacement make it a poor seaboat, with small "blue-water" capabilities. Anyway, it was designed for coastal operations...
