From http://www.beetmedicine.tv/2009/03/breast-reconstruction-with-a-patients-own-...
The goals of breast reconstruction have changed from simply replacing the mound of the breast so that a woman can look normal in clothes to being able to totally preserve the appearance and texture of a normal breast.
Dr. Alexes Hazen talks about implants and myocutaneous flaps, a reconstruction which uses a womans own tissue. Dr. Karp describes the different types of abdominal flaps and particularly the DIEP flap which retains the most muscular strength.
