Songs for Survival KT Tunstall

KT Tunstall speaks here about her contribution to an album for Survival International, the human rights organization for tribal peoples.

Bruce Parry, star of the BBC series Tribe and the forthcoming Amazon, has teamed up with some of the music worlds biggest names to create a fundraising album for Survival.

Musicians on the album also include will.i.am (Black Eyed Peas), Johnny Borrell (Razorlight), Tom Baxter, Mystery Jets, Jason Mraz, Yusuf Islam, Hot Chip, the Go! Team and Mike Oldfield.

In addition, Guy Berryman from Coldplay, Jonas from MEW and Magne from A-ha have formed a new band specially for the CD called Apparatjik, and recorded a track that will also be used for the end credits of Amazon.

Every track on the album is exclusive, and has been written especially for the project.

The first section of songs is titled Amazon and features songs inspired by Bruce Parrys new series of that name, to be shown on BBC2 in September.

The second section of songs, entitled Tribe, is a collection of dance/experimental songs which all use samples of music Bruce recorded with the tribal people he lived with during the making of his hugely popular BBC show.

She just learnt about the indigenous people and yet she is so aware of the science of ecology and the situation those people are facing... :)

The world is surely now awakening.Within my short lifetime as an Indigenous Australian my people were forced to live within the waste depots of non Indigenous people.But we have now come out of that & I can now see what is happening to other Indigenous people around the world & ask if I can help.The world is awakening.

nothing has been raped, nothing has been pillaged, it's really co-existing, which is the anti-thesis of how we've ended up, where we've just absolutely ruined..because it's just consumption, consumption, greed and greed

just trees to be cut down to make space, it's just ..it's just absolutely dreadful. when you think of these fantastic, isolated ecosystems that are discovered, and you think, ah we must leave it alone because us interfering will ruin it, its so fragile and so precious.

for me its just much more about respect. we have to celebrate and preserve the fact that here is a harmonious, natural situation, we human beings can ruin this situation, completely undermine their ecosystem.

...fantastically exciting from a creative point of view, but obviously i really a worthwhile fulfilling project to do, from a social perspective.

i was really amazed by this...because i didnt really know anything about it. i really hadnt even considered that there was tribes of people living in the rainforest with their own language, their own culture and it's been like that for..well who knows how long.

the story is about the massacring of these tribes of people, as if they were just

I was just delighted to be part of it music i think is always a force of good, always a real positive force of the world and one of these amazing things you can use to really kind of raise awareness without really wagging fingers, its a really quite a spiritual way of getting people into the subject, i think.
