NY Fashion Week: 10 Trends

1. The Sexy Turtleneck:
We see this layering basic every season, but this time around it was sexy, interesting, and anything but boring.

2. Velvet
When velvet shows up in all the right forms it makes us at Genealogy wonder why we don't wear it more often. This commonly misunderstood fabric revived its reputation on the runways of Alexander Wang and Ralph Lauren.

3. Capes
Whether tiny and tailored or big and dramatic, the cape is definitely our new fall cover-up of choice.

4. Big Beautiful Pants
We at Genealogy are always excited when big pants return. Thanks to Zac Posen we can look just like Katharine Hepburn this season.

5. Patchwork
Instead of feeling retro-stale, the season's patchwork came off with a fresh, edgy vibe.

6. Graffiti'd Pants
There's really nothing new about graffiti'd pants, but somehow designers like Tory Burch managed to give them an artful modern makeover we're totally obsessing over.

7. Fantasy Ox Blood
This rich color is one of the oldest trends to date - SO '70s - yet, we still loved it courtesy of designers like DKNY just the same!

8. Classic Camel
With all the focus on purple and emerald green (again), fashion's most reliable neutral was a relaxing break from the brights.

9. The Winter Crop Top
Always a flop, the crop top hasn't ever really gotten it right in season's past, but designers this season have got the proportions and the layering down to a science!

10. The Tough Pleated Mini
We're not talking pleated micro-minis that mimic cheerleading costumes gone wrong. Designers like Alexander Wang fashioned pleated minis for the tough, or should I say cool, girls.

Take these trends and incorporate them into your own Fall 2010 wardrobe. They are a sure fire way to avoid any fashion disasters!
