  • @850ovlov I called myself a retard - you seem far more sensible, seriously. People starved to death during the famine, which was entirely preventable. British policy created the conditions, and ultimately caused the deaths no question! Thanks to you and Mr Ketchup111 & others, for some great and discussion... cheers!

  • i am mixed up about travellers, i been to rathkeale many times and they seem so lost when they go to post office or have to que in supermarkets or hardware shops as they not to educated ,.they are not very friendly just the odd simple hello or hi would to go astray with them,.but its dangerous to purchase anything form them as their sales pitch isarrogant, they last guy was pressurising me to go to the bank ,.they need to learn manners,.i will be killed for writing this,.

  • @850ovlov (sorry for yammering on) ...to residential schools, where they had the "Indian beat out of them". Entire communities were totally destroyed, families destroyed individuals left devastated without the support of family and a strong identity. That Travellers have been able to maintain their culture and identity through insularity, is a great thing - and I think it'll serve the whole process of reconciling dominant Irish, and Uk mainstream with Traveller culture very well in the end.

  • @1874jill I certainly did not refer to you as a retard, the famine in Ireland did not kill the people but the fact that the English stole all other foods caused the deaths, poatoes were not grown as a staple food but mainly to feed livestock as the soil in the bulk of Ireland is totally unsuitable for potatoes (too acidic). The problem with ownership to land in Ireland is that almost all the deeds to land ownership were destroyed in the 1916 uprising so proof is impossible.
