Recorded immediately after the conclusion of the Seattle International Film Festival, "Indymedia Presents this week devotes the whole show to a review of interesting films worth looking for. One of the producers of this show, Randy Rowland, gives us his impressions of three movies that played in the Film Festival, as well as his take on Michael Moore's "Sicko."

The movies reviewed (along with the trailers for each feature) are as follows:

-The Violin--a Mexican film unlikely to get much of a commercial US release, but one Randy liked best in the Festival.

-Goya's Ghosts--filmed in Spain, in English, it is clearly aimed at US audiences, with a big message from across the Atlantic: "Hey America, confessions extracted by torture don't count!" This was another favorite from the Film Festival and it is now opening across the US.

-Getting Home--Also a favorite at the Seattle Film Festival, this is a Chinese road movie that is funny and uplifting. Randy comments on a surprizing scene that casually raises the idea of not criminalizing poverty. Another world is possible raises its head in an unlikely way.

-Sicko --This didn't play in the Seattle Film Festival, but Randy caught it on an advance screening. It is now open across America and Randy feels it is Michael Moore's best work to date.

The rest of "Indymedia Presents" is a continuation of the themes raised in "Sicko." Randy works as a Registered Nurse in a big trauma center in Seattle and shares his comments on Hillary Clinton, NAFTA, and prescription drug patents. It is a concrete example of what "Sicko" is getting at. Randy exposes how the super-profits from one patent-protected prescription drug were enough to pay for all the wages for all the nurses in all the hospitals in America.

Pepperspray Productions formed shortly after the WTO protests in Seattle, in response to the Independent Media Center's call, "don't hate the media, be the media!". We believe that the Corporate Media is not telling us the whole story, and that the people must make our own media if we want our voices to be heard.

Independent (Indy) media sites. Don't hate the media, be the media!
