@Igotbadjoints Moving pictures are a series of stills(obviously) - usually about 30 per second of viewing time. An alternative way to do this would be a subtractive method i.e. shoot 30 frames a second and strip out most of the frames.
This is not a stupid question at all - infact the relationship between the still and the moving image is a fascinating one.
Photography is the only medium that is able to be many different things.Yes it can be art , but more often it is not, it`s a record a reference, Contemporary by definition is whatever someone happens to be doing with the medium at any one time. A much more interesting and relavant question might be can it do anything new and exiting without compromising itself...?
By saying this is a "Stupid question" you're taking the position that photography is not to be included within the discourse of Art. The belief that it isn't necessary for photography to ask this question is to say you don't think it is as worthy an Art form as painting and sculpture. Every piece of Art need only have one primary function; the one common thread which ties the wide range of mediums, forms, method, technique, process, etc..., and that is to ask one question, "What is Art?".
What`s the point of making moving pictures with still photography, either it`s still or it`s moving,,! Only an ass with no vision could consider compromising the medium just because it`s slightly out of vouge. All the best photographers never cared about opinion, they just took pictures. this looks like people looking for fame rather than pictures. You only need to know where the medium is going if you need to follow...!
