I was stationed at N.A.S. Pensacola and one day, almost got sucked into the intake of a Phantom. I was on the side of the plane, talking to the pilot, and could feel the suction pulling on my tool pouch. Not a pleasant feeling.

It was his flashlight and HIS HELMET that went through the engine, and the pilot heard the explosive thud and shutdown the engines, but also, it was his wide shoulders that got him wedged in there, in the intake tube and saved his life. They interviewed him and use this as a training video now, and he said his helmet was what was sucked off his head and broke the turbine fans and caused the explosion in the engine.

fucking ouch!

His clothing got stuck on a brace in the jet intake and it stopped him from going in. His helmet went into the engine and made the sparks.
i used to work at the airport, you don't live if you get sucked into an engine. we had it happen a couple years ago and it sprayed blood all across the passenger's windows. continental had to pay all the passengers on the plane for their 'trauma.'

The A-6 has a small engine, not like the ones on passenger jets. Plus the pieces of his helmet helped stop the engine. And the pilot also powered down. I was in the Navy for 8 years and saw this video as part of my training.

Dude - you didn't show the best part. The guy crawls back out the front of the intake. It was his flashlight that went through the engine. I saw this video shortly after it happened while deployed on a different carrier.

This is all they had. I originally saw the vid when I was in Aviation Medicine School in NAS Pensacola.
