Casio AP-500 videos are almost non-existent on youtube or the internet. I believe this is the first documented AP-500 recording on Youtube. It is a fabulous instrument that deserves a lot more credit than it appears to be getting. There are finer instruments out there, but not for the price.

The AP-500 is a substantial upgrade compared to the Casio PX-800 and others. It has 4 speakers, a 60 watt amplifier, and with more dedicated buttons settings are easier to change. It has a built in two track recorder as well as a metronome. All housed in a better than average 'furniture-grade' cabinet. Nice wide music desk that has two positions. Assembles very easily.

In practice, the key action is firm but responsive. I would say firmer action than most. The improved 4 speaker sound system transmits vibrations through the cabinet and keys and gives you the feel of sitting at a real piano - this effect doesn't come through on the video but makes it realistic to play on.

Operating the unit is simple and settings are easy to change. There aren't many settings to fool with (simple is better), but the brightness, reverb, chorus, and touch have a big effect on the sound and can be changed to your preference.

Polyphony is excellent, 128 in mono and 64 with most of the stereo pianos. I've not heard it drop off any notes that mattered and I'm pretty heavy on the sustain pedal.

The soft, sostenuto, and damper pedals on the AP-500 are metal and are full size. They seem sturdy and are attached to a metal reinforced housing that has an adjustable foot on it to adapt to different carpet thickness.

You'll have to judge the sound for yourself, but I have access to several different baby grand pianos which are fun to play on, but I'm very happy with the AP-500 and didn't spend a fortune. I'll try to put some higher quality videos out there soon.

  • whats that song at 1:37sec?

  • That's "Let it Be" by Paul McCartney/Beatles

  • In my opinion the yamaha digital pianos are better. The sound is more realistic or something.

    I prefer yamaha's

  • There are a lot of factors to consider, and the Yamaha's are considerably more expensive. Both sounds can be tweaked to preference. "Better" is up to you. I believe the Casio's provide great sound and features at a great price.

  • im trying to find good advice on choice of yamaha or casio the best review i found so far was one saying that the casio's have a brighter tone which to me means it sounds less like an acoustic.

im considering a casio px 800 but if casio is really such a bright tone ill have to stick with a yamaha even though it has 64 bit polyphony instead of 128 like casio. what noticeable diff is 64 vs 128 though seems like masters can do fine with 64 so i guess i can as well any ideas anyone?

  • The poly difference between 64 and 128 is not very noticeable and I wouldn't base my decision on just that. Did you click on "More Info" in my description that gives a mini-review? I think the casio is less bright than the Yamaha - just my ear. You can change some settings and get a 'less bright' sound if you prefer.

  • @2cpus4me Thanks for the VID to show folks the piano that isn't shown much on youtube

  • Oh, and I don't necessarily want the different sounds, just basically a normal piano, but that it's digital.

  • Hey, I'm looking for a weighted digital piano- I want it to have proper hammer-effect keys, but still be digital because of tuning- Do you know any models or brands that can give me a proper, furniture looking one? Thanks.

  • @canoeshoe the 4 chords song :D!

  • hey man i have the ap220, and all this series have the same sound AIF... exactly for the piano, and it has the same touch feel, the difference is that the ap-500 have more functionalities and more sounds, but if you're looking for the piano sound why do you need all the other extras? moreover, i like the look of the ap-200 and ap-220 because they do not have screen an dbuttons on them, so they look more like a real piano. these have the lowest price. ap-200 800$ ap220 900$ with stand for sitting

  • I started 2 years ago and I needed a piano. We chose this one, because it was the best you could get for the price and we got a magazine which tested different digital pianos and it was one of the best in it's price categories. And I'm happy with it. I really would advice it if you are looking for a digital one. But if you aren't sure about a digital and a "normal". Choose the normal. The feeling while playing is just so much better. You can really feel the tones.

  • Thank you very much! At least i heard samples of this piano. Strange, but seems that it better than Roland that i choosed before and witch 3 times more expensive

    Sorry for bad English.

  • can anyone help me find the usb drivers for this piano because i dont have the cd if u know where to get them hit me coz id appreciate it alot thanks

  • can you tell me anything about the ap200 by any chance?
