Slacktivism or Activism? What Was The Rally To Restore Sanity?

The Rally to Restore Sanity and or Fear was a collection of educated, self consciously ironic, snarky left of center or politically apathetic individuals most of whom- I would learn- had never been to a rally or protest of any kind.

So what was this?

A reaction against reactionaries?

A protest against protests?

Was this the largest collection of Slacktivist ever assembled in one place?

Or was it possible that Stewart and Colbert had succeeded in creating a kind of gateway drug- a slippery slope into a life long engagement with politics?

What's the point of this? Biased questions at a biased rally. I get it, shit's all messed up. Half these people are there just to see Colbert and Stewart, or don't know why they're there at all. Crowds draw crowds.

Even Jon Stewart said, at the end of the "slackfest", that even HE didn't know WTF this rally was supposed to be. Maybe it was a Seindfeldian kind of rally - a rally about nothing. Just people getting together without hostility or confrontation, ego or pride. Just people chillin'.... I like that. Even if this got people away from the lying media on TV and out into the air... that's good. And why stop now? And why Washington? People need to get together in person to talk about solutions.
