Back then the sound that tv`s produced really mattered...

@DAVEMC1000 If you Google "ntsc to pal converter", you'll see a bunch of them on Amazon for under $100. That will make this TV work where any old analog US TV would.

thinks were built to last then, unfortunately nowadays its a throwaway nation

There is always that "fight" who was first. During that TV show, Germany was annoucned as the third nation after the USA and Japan to have regular nationwide colour TV broadcasts. In Britain they dont like to hear that, however BBC 2 did not start its *regular* colour broadcasts until December 1967. Especially the Wimbledon broadcast was still experimental with just one camera. The regular broadcast in 405 lines was done seperately. Also many BBC 2 transmitters were still b/w only.

Would this television work if I brought it to the States and hooked it up to AT&T satellite and my Xbox 360? I would really like to add a classic PAL set to my collection.

SVT-Play has clips from the preparations for the first Swedish nation-wide live colour broadcast on 17 August 1967.
I love this set. Wood cabinet, vacuum tubes, delta picture tube... wonder if the stock one still have good emission!

These early Telefunken delta picture tubes are wellknown for their low emission. This tube is driven at the lower limit.

Really nice post!
Thank you.
What is the source material for the demo please (tape)?
I assume it's German which is probably why it still exists. Unlike the poor old Beeb (BBC) which wiped many priceless and irreplaceable recordings )-:

The source is a tape recording from 1967. Most of the German television tapes of the 1960s and 1970s were erased after broadcasting. Only a few tapes of historical interest survived.
The BBC is working on a project to restore the color from b/w recordings on celluloid by extracting the colour subcarrier informations.
