Yes, but the Z80 was only used in certain programs, particularly those which used sample playback for some sounds. In this case, the Z80 did the actual decompresssion.

In my case , word mode works with slash and byte mode works with back-slash. That's the way as it it was implemented by myself.

Is your design open and available or something you wish to keep private?
This interests me because I decided I wish to use 68k/Coldfire arch for industrial automation computers(for personal machines). There are many reasons that make it still a fine choice (price, main target for gcc, stable technology, etc)

@telesniper2 Hello, much more details you will find on my homepage pdp11gy . com
chapter 3.3 including circuit-diagram. I still have problem to the a floppy-disk where the source
code is on. ( Atari floppy disk ) . Maybe it is media problem. If you have any idea to recover the
data ( via dump program ), let me know this and I will include the source code ( MC68000 assembler )
on home page too. Regards

Doesn't the Sega Genesis/ Mega drive also use a 68000 CPU and a Z80 to control the sound chip?
theelfkilla 1 year ago
@theelfkilla Sorry, I don't know but I think a 680000 CPU would /was to expensive. Regards
