I was a CART official at Rockingham a week later and the whole paddock was in shock. During one of the rain delays we had a briefing on what happened and the rescue by Dr Steve Olvey and Simple Green Safety Team. I spoke to Tags during the Friday rain out and he was distraught so much so I had to call Dr Terry Trammell over to help him. Tags was glad that there was someone to talk to who was in CART but not a full time member. That month was a hard month for CART

And he still ended 4th in the New York Marathon wearing his leg protheses. Unbelievable, Zanardi is a true iron man.

He is one of the most blessed human beings Ive ever heard of. Floundering in Formula One in uncompetitive cars in the 90's. Nearly killed at Spa during practice for the GP. Came to the USA won the Indycar Championship convincingly. Went back to F1 but again didnt go anywhere except back to Indycar and then this! In an accident which absolutely should have killed him. Heart of a Lion.

At some point in the interview Zanardi said that the germans pumped so much german blood in him that he should have a german passport! I laughed my ass out when i saw it! The optimism in the man is just staggering!
You gotta love Zanardi!
