I'm an american and I completely sympathize with your statement. and I know many americans think the same. "he who forgets history is doomed to repeat it". on top of that most of these dictators and regimes were set in place by the west or supported to stay in place by the west. Then in the end when things go wrong and revolt starts the western leaders act as if they want the people of any given country to have "freedom" again "yeah right"

And seeing how somehow foreign armies seem to have a knack at invading their countries to bring them "freedom", "yeah right' or threatening and invade them, piss on bodies, humiliate them in their country, it's surprising some of them have a mild disliking of the west. I know you like to tie it all to religion, but many people around the world have plenty of reasons to dislike the west without religion even being a factor.
