1995 album Ultimate Driving Collection: Motor City Motoring
In 1971, Eddie Kendricks left the Temptations to become a solo artist. But the singer had done his homework by asking Frank Wilson to be his producer and getting commitments for promotion from Motown executives. Although a few of his first singles broke the R&B Top 20, it wouldn't be until two years later that Kendricks would get his pop breakthrough. Wilson ran into Leonard Caston in the hallways of Motown. Caston, whose credits included a stint with Chess Records, was trying to join the label as a staff songwriter and producer. Wilson wanted to take Kendricks in a different direction that was more dance-oriented. The producer recorded in Los Angeles at Motown's studios and Crystal Sound with bassist James Jamerson, drummer Ed Greene, vibist Gary Coleman, King Errisson on congas, organist Jerry Peters, pianist Caston, and guitarists Dean Parks and Greg Poree. Written by producers Wilson and Caston with lyrics by Anita Poree, the driving "Keep on Truckin'" parked at number one R&B for two weeks while going to number one pop for two weeks in the fall of 1973.
this song in my opinion was the begining of disco, it rocks
