"This hymn to the Mother of God is sung during various offices (matins, Eucharist...). Here it is used for the rite welcoming the bishop to the church before the Eucharistic liturgy. While the choir sings the Marian hymn, the deacon pronounces the introductory prayers. The polyphonic arrangement of this old melody is characteristic of the "Pertessian" style from the beginning of the 18th century."

Russian basso profondo Yuri Wichniakov and the Orthodox Singers Male Choir.

  • This sounds strangely like Christopher Lee as Saruman in the LOTRs movies...I wonder how low he can go?

  • @grassieb I've actually been thinking about that myself... He sounds like ha could have been a great bass.

  • Good thing he hit C#2, at least now I can sing along at a decent volume in my pure chest voice, as I can't sing any lower after 9 a.m. (After breakfast, my voice gets slightly higher, so forget any Basso Profondo range by me after.)

  • Haha, it's the same with me! Before having breakfast, I can usually sing down to an Ab1, but after eating, it's difficult to hit lower than a D2.

    Strange...

  • eat your hearts out guys! I've got a low G below low C at midnight. I'm a lyric basso profundo. When I was on stage at the Met waiting to go on during an opera I'd be humming a low A below low C. All the heads would turn to see who was doing it.

  • @xmetbass

I would like to hear it, can you post a video?

  • your vocal chords relax after you've slept... once you get up, they start to tension up a bit, even if you don't talk. So enjoy your 5 min of Profundo breakfast...

  • I didn't know Dumbledore could sing so well.
