Jaap van Duijn, former member of the Board of Directors of the Robeco Group, examines the idea of "life after the crisis" at the first Journeys with Erasmus conference and debate on 20 November 2008. Mr. van Duijn illustrates how the sub-prime mortgage crisis has become the crisis of trust. Attempting to sketch a forecast of the financial climate, he draws a comparison between the late 1970s economic crunch and the present economic crisis, suggesting that the current economic climate may follow similar patterns, i.e. a swift recovery, which will temporarily restore optimism but be followed quickly by a return to the original recession phase.
