CHEN:
Moving onto Australia... where a new documentary premiered telling the story of many Tibetans persecuted in China. It highlights the loss of Tibetan culture since the Chinese occupation began.
STORY:
Brisbane's Dendy Theatre premieres "Tibet's Cry for Freedom" a documentary produced and directed by South Australian film maker Lara Damiani.
The film shows the beauty of the Tibetan landscape and traditional way of life but highlights the loss of Tibetan culture since the Chinese occupation of Tibet.
Human Rights and environmental destruction issues in the region are highlighted.
Tenzin Choegyal from Brisbane composed the Tibetan music for the film.
[Tenzin Choegyal, Tibetan Australian Resident]:
"I composed the music for 'Tibet's Cry for Freedom' a documentary made on Tibet and Tibet's plight and for its freedom."
Geshe Tashi Tsering head of the Chenrezig Buddhist Institute spoke to the audience before the film. Geshe spoke of his concern about the loss of Tibetan culture since the Chinese invasion.
[Geshe Tashi Tsering, Head of Chenrezig Buddhist Institute]:
"On my three trips to Tibet since 2002 there are less and less Tibetan youth speaking Tibetan, it was even hard to find a translator."
The film shows the fantastic Tibetan landscape while it dwells on aspects of Tibetan culture and the Tibetan way of life. It shows how all these things are being destroyed as the Chinese pressure increases over time. Exclusive interviews feature such as the Dalai Lama expressing concern for the environment.
Ashley Brown from the Australia Tibet Council was happy to see such a crowd learning the facts about the annihilation of the Tibetan culture.
[Ashley Brown, Australia Tibet Council]:
"Its a fantastic movie and a great time, an important time for Tibet.
Take a good look at the Tibetan flag for as the culture dies out so may the flag disappear...forever.
