1997 Subaru legacy wagon, blew the stock engine on the crank due to oil pump failure at 245000 km, got a jdm ej25d n\a engine, changed the head gaskets on it and stuck it in the car. It has headers on it and a muffler, still a couple exhaust leaks to fix. Kept the japanese intake manifold since it does not have egr system and is better flowing. its a great winter car !

  • Hey I am looking to do the same thing, was there any issues with the stock ecu, and EGR valve as I would have to have it pass emissions here in Ontario

  • @jc54bv nop, except i dont have any egr anymore, cauz i used the japanese intake manifold and i took off my cats also lol

  • You are supposed to separate the torque converter from flywheel before removing the engine unless its seized because it damages the transmission oil seal; see the tranny fluid coming out the input shaft?

So you would be leaving the torque converter on the transmission actually.

  • @kawikid20o2 yea i know, i figures that out afterward that there was an access hole in the bellhousing to unbolt it, i changed the seal anyways afterwards and put it back together the right way

  • What exhaus header is that!? I am to swap out stock 2.5 97 to a stock 2.5 out of 99

  • @cutandpastestudios Its a stainless header i got off ebay, it sounds good and seems to be holding up so far

  • @iloveheavymetal1 yes they do

  • does anyone know if the EJ22 has the same mounts as the EJ25?

  • GLORIOUS selection of montage music. Great work on the Legacy, too.

  • did that crappy ebay head gasket blow out yet? I ordered the same engine gasket set probably, but couldn't bear to do the head gasket. It scared me too much. Bought a FELPRO and used that instead.

  • Lol only way I know is by making the same mistake the first time I did an autobox motor swap! Kicked myself pretty hard for that one!
