  • By Sqaurix1: "I strongly believe that the stress Alex went through working with Dr. Pepperberg all those 10+ hour days lead to his death. If she truly believes parrots have the intelligence (and emotional capabilities) of a three year old, she shouldn't have worked him so hard. Would you subject a 3 year old to 10 hour long intensive work days? Einstein, a healthy parrot with intact feathers, is a good example of studying these birds without harming them."

  • @ Sqaurix1: WELL SAID! Thank you!

  • So clever, I'm gonna get an African Grey soon :)

  • I assume you know what you're getting into....a LIFE-TIME of a demanding feathered companion who is the equivalent of a 4-year-old child...forever...

  • I think they can understand. We have an african grey. I pick up my purse, and he says, "by see you later". I pick up the phone, he says "Hello". I don't have to say anything, he says it for me. They are smarter than humans give them credit for.

  • I'm sorry. There are human beings who when they speak, we don't know if they comprehend what they're saying. How can anyone be sure about a parrot?

  • "You be good. I love you."

  • I knew it.. although it could be a parrot imitating shatner..

  • Shit yer!

  • Its so sad that Griffin is heading the same way as Alex. Irene's findings are fascinating but I don't agree with her methods and the use of the model. African greys are flocking birds. I personally believe that jealousy is one of the fiercest/strongest emotions a grey can experience. He saw her as his mate and it must have been so stressful for him to vie for her attention all the time.
