Somalis; Origins, History, & Culture

This is an assignment I did for a class. I know it isn't the most comprehensive and it is totally done from an outsider's perspective. Because of time constraints, I had to leave out a lot of information. Please just view this as a short introduction. I apologize for anything that I may have misinterpreted. The information was based upon information from Every Culture dot com, and two books by the Center for Refugee Resources: The Somalians, & Muslim Refugees. Many of the pictures were from random searches online and for example the United Nation's website. Additionally, again because I wanted to keep this under 10 minutes the end credits were way too short and I was not able to thank Rick Davies whose website was the one of the first places I found photos of Mogadishu and a history of the country. His website was an invaluable resources.

This is an assingment I did for a class. In Finland, we have a large populations of Somalian immigrants. I wanted my classmates to know more about Somalis. Most of my classmates are from different parts of Africa but still are quite ignorant of other countries history and culture.

Thanks for the video and sharing with us...but you haven't clearley said that the Western divided Somalia into 5...which is Somaliland, Somali, Ogaden, Djabouti and NDF...that is the most important thing..we were the biggest African Nation, who loved n cared for each other...but Western taught us the hate and tribe issue to divide us...by this Century we would been the most 1 African nation who speak, 1 language, 1 traditional and have one religion..plus we are known as the Land of Poet..cheers

thanksfor the video.... some facts where explained the wrong way, about ethopia defeating somalia.. NO Somalians and the Ogaden ethnically Somalians in the ogaden.. defeated the tigray and amhara ethopian oppresors and empiralist.. then since ethiopians where christian and the Somalians where black muslims thats why ethiopia got helped financialy and military and soldier suppoert from Christian nations like Russia, America, and Portugise and Cuban and libya and yeman, so that was Plain Cowardice
