The effect of gravitational lensing. This video uses the Hubble Ultra Deep Field image as a backdrop. The backdrop image is scrolled from lower left to upper right, in order to make maximum use of the high-resolution image, while the lens simultaneously moves from upper left to lower right. The video is produced at a resolution of 640 pixels by 480 pixels, and the Einstein radius of the lens is chosen to be 50 pixels. The video begins and ends with the lens as much out of the frame as possible, in order to show a virtually undistorted background.
