This was done as a demonstration of the forward facing E flat tenor horn. This is an unusual instrument as they normally point up the way.

  • brand and model?

  • @Sevnfurdy Boosey and Hawkes, but made for them by some other company.

  • @Virtuoso95 I must be an idiot then!

  • Hi. Just got an old Conn forward facing "Solo Alto Horn" from 1903. I love your tone. What mouthpiece are you using? I first tried a denis wick 5 which was too dark sounding. Just got the yamaha 37c4 alto horn mouthpiece, which I like. Enjoyed your playing, inspired me. thanks, Glenn

  • @glennalper Its a Wick 5 I am using, but only because I had one around the house. It would sound better on a Wick 3 probably.

  • Really, this is interesting. Kinda like what happened when Conn took the bell of their mellophone, made it straight, and it become a mellophonium. A straight alto? Sounds like brass have ventured further into sax language since the advent of the saxhorn. xD

  • As an FYI, I recently saw two Couesnon forward facing Eb horns in the flugelhorn section of ebay. Both went for more than I was willing to go for, unfortunately. One of 'em would have made a good match for my Couesnon alto horn. Also, in the valve trombone section of ebay, you can find listings for valve 'bones in either Eb or F. Judging from the price, they're most likely Chinese made, but might be worth takin' a chance on.

  • @intrepidpooch The instrument you're thinking of is actually a Bb alto Saxhorn, not a flugel. Same family as this horn. Saxhorns range from Bb piccolo to Eb bass. This is the Eb alto/tenor.

    Real flugels have rotary valves.

  • @Virtuoso95 The modern flugel is Saxhorn, not a flugel. The Eb tenor/alto horn is also a Saxhorn. Real flugles tend to have rotary valves. Most people wouldn't know a real flugel if it fell on them.

  • What's the bore size at the valves on this? It's got an interesting sound for sure.

  • Whoa that's a big trumpet! Sounds good.

  • @Virtuoso95 Use your ears dude, clearly WAY lower than a flugel.
