Imagine youre in your teens, 20s or 30s, doing all the stuff you do at that stage and you are of course invincible, and likely living as if that belief is reality. Then out of nowhere you are diagnosed with cancer. At YACC we say you have been disintrajectorized.

Disintrajectorized, originally coined by YACC retreat alumnus Travis Gobeil in 2005, is a term that describes what happens to your life when you get cancer as a young adult. Your life is disintrajectorized off it's current path and onto another completely different path.

Hearing the words you have cancer will rock a persons world no matter their age, but when youre a young adult its got a different impact. When treatment starts the loss of your hair, the drop in weight and decrease in energy, these things are visible for all to see but the delay, loss or adjustment of your dreams is invisible to most yet equally or more challenging than any chemo side-effect.
