Anybody remember which engine was present at 2010 Woodvale? It wasn't Merlin and I think it was quite bigger. I know that they were installed in some 4 motor UK bomber.
To confuse things, there is also a racing V8 that's called a Merlin, which is probably what are talking about. Six Merlin V12s would be overkill and too heavy for a tractor puller.
These guys have built these engines from crashed examples or parts that won't meet airworthy inspections. Thank them for preserving them from the scrapper or from ending up with a tortured and very short life in boat racing or tractor pulling.
No, not a waste at all. They would have been a waste if these guys had not put time,money and effort into restoring them back to running condition. If you could only hear them running the hairs on the back of your neck stand up!!! Saw them at woodvale 2006, i didnt get there this year.
Thats my dads engine, thats him in the blue overalls sat on the back!

@davtexnr
These guys also operate a RR Griffon, which is larger displacement than the Merlin and was used in the 4-engine Avro Shackleton.

Indeed. It's a guaranteed destruction for these historic engines-they can't handle the stress and heat.

They're probably out of hours engines that aren't airworthy anymore.
Better this than having them end up on a scrap heap somewhere.
