2:45 When approaching the island try and avoid going in a straight line - you are more likely to be hit by any sloops or cutters hanging around.
2:58 When entering the island remember that you can be shot, even if you are technically 'inside'. You can also be boarded by rafts, so it may actually be better to go around the island once to try and get away from any danger.
3:45 Once on the island move towards the circle with the tall stone coming out of it - this will help you to start foraging quicker.

6:41 If a thrall is under attack and looks to be suffering, it is a good idea to defend it, even if it's not yours. Particularly when it is only semi-thrall, and you son't have one yourself.
