Your iPod - Under threat

The European Union (EU)wants to pass the ACTA Treaty. The treaty pretends to be about copyright protection. In reality, it is an attempt to monitor our internet behaviour. Leaked documents show the EU will have the power to seize your iPod, MP3 and laptops - then fine you. The average iPod contains 800 songs which fall foul of ACTA provisions. Only the UK Independence Party (UKIP) opposes it. Vote UKIP on June 4th, and keep your iPod!

Scary stuff indeed, I wouldn't want to be arrested under the ACTA treaty just because I listen to music on my Ipod which I may or may not be aware is copyright theft. Music is to be enjoyed, not made a criminal offence - the world really is going mad!

@FuroraCeltica. They voted against transparency, they voted against restricting it to counterfeiting (thereby saving your Ipod), they voted against measures that would restrict access to medicines. The voted in favour of the status quo, with the Commission negotiating a truly terrible treaty. I'm sure the Commission is grateful for the support.

True, this was only a resolution but one sending a strong signal towards the Commission negotiating the treaty. As it is the sign was very powerful by being adopted nearly unanimous. Why it wasn't? Because of UKIP.

If UKIP wanted to make clear its against ACTA it should have supported this resolution as all the others as well. Now they stick out as the only ones that didn't and have to explain why. Not very clever.

@joe03056 I think you'll find UKIP voted the way they did because they oppose the treaty in principle. The vote on ACTA was resolution, not legislative, so had no force in law.

It's already been passed in the US actually
