Short compilation of a day I had with my ported 10" Desert Eagle in .50AE.

I handload my .50AE and .44mag. All but the last 4 rounds are 335gr Rainier full copper plated round-nose bullets on top of Hodgdon H-110 powder. The last 4 were 300gr Speer Deepcurl JHP on top of slightly more H-110 (higher velocity).

I know it sounds like I'm close to a road; it's actually my house well off of a major Maine rural route, but this camcorder picks up background noises like crazy. All safety precautions were made. And for the love of God, wear hearing and eye protection when you're shooting, especially something this size; unburned powder can blowback in your face, and I've singed my hair with this gun several times.

  • how far away were you from the target?

  • @FranklinGray From the concrete-filled jug, probably about 75-80 feet. From most other targets, roughly 50 feet. The yard's not as big as it looks.

  • @Bizzmark11 whats the range with that gun?

  • @kingvic97 I haven't gotten it to a proper range, but as it stands right now I wouldn't try hitting anything past about 120 feet until I start seriously reloading for accuracy - often, higher velocity does *not* mean greater accuracy, particularly when your projectile possesses the ballistic coefficient of a banana cream pie. All the same, this is by far the most accurate handgun I've ever fired, and I feel this is partly due to the polygonal rifling.

  • @Bizzmark11 but from what my limited knowledge of words tells me is bigger bang and bullet doesnt equal longer range. maybe u shud customize a gun to be accurate for long range stuff. red jacket, from what i hear, like to do custom crazy shit like that. please let me know if you start a utube channel gun show. peace n chiken grease my friend!

  • @kingvic97 Well, I bought a Desert Eagle because I wanted one; I have an affinity to the gun, and it was even designed & introduced the same year I was. Nothing feels better in my hands.

When it comes to pure range (not accuracy), attaining a higher velocity with the same weight bullet will almost invariably decrease its dropoff, as it travels further in the same period of time, with gravity as a constant. However, most pistol rounds tumble in air, especially large ones moving fast.

  • @kingvic97 And handgun rounds are inherently less accurate. I like it because it's a challenge - with open sights on my 1944 K98 Mauser, for example, I can put a hole through a penny at 65 feet. Where's the challenge?

If people are actually interested, I'd love to start a gun show. Anyone reading this is welcome to post/inbox me with suggestions, or just to say they think it's a good idea. I could even put up reloading tutorials.
