Further evidence that these two large Great Pyrenees dogs who are supposedly guarding this Alpaca herd actually bark indiscriminately at any time of the day or night for no reason. The worst part is that the owner's have made no attempt to train the dogs not to bark except during threatening mountain lion attack. If the dogs are supposed to be an alarm mechanism then the owner's would have to respond but this does not occur. Frequently the dogs continue barking for up to hours in long stretches. We have called the Fisher's on the phone numerous times asking them to attend to the dogs and they will comment that they could not hear them barking although their barks can be heard inside our home over background music or movies. We have suggested that they purchase "baby alarms" to monitor the dogs so they can be attentive when they bark but no measures have been taken. These dog's barking of more than 20 minutes at a time without provocation violates the Nevada County ordinance regarding dogs barking and numerous complaints have been filed with lengthy documented incidents of these dogs barking. A $200 fine has been the only result thus far.
Expecting a Great Pyr not to bark if like expecting a Golden Retriever not to retrieve. You can't train 2000 yrs of breeding away. What do you expect?
