Since I've never really had a chance to touch down the actual Multiplayer modes on the PC version of the Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter "1" (GRAW)this Multiplayer demo of the second installment in the new series of the Ghost Recon franschise was really interesting.
Technology-wise it's the same game as the previous, with a little more polished textures on some places and HDR-lightning that looks better than in the previous. But Performance-wise there's no dramatical differences. In this video I played all settings high, no xAA anf 4x AF textures and Normal physics along with "Extreme" audio quality and EAX dropping at 20FPS while recording using Fraps 2.8.1 but when not recording the frame-rate ran at 40 and up to 60FPS, which in this game is very well playable and enjoyable as long as it stays that way.
In this video I played the teamwork-based mode based on the core Offense-Defence gameplay - one team, the Ghosts is supposed to take down three Rebel anti-aircraft units with explosives. The Ghosts has the ability to pinpoint enemy positions while aiming at them which gives them a upper hand when it comes to sneak through or more stealthy elimnate targets in combination of their low-profile silenced weapons. While the Ghosts are supposed to take down these units the Rebels has the defending position, armed with heavier weapons and granted the ability to use heavy stationary weapons along the map to cover big open areas. Once all three AA-vehicles has been destroyed the Ghosts have won the round. To notice is also the Ghosts has a very limited respawning count while the Rebels only get decreased respawning time and capacity as the critical objectives are destoyed.
The multiplayer client itself has lag problems, but nothing too bad after all - I've seen far worse but also way better. As there's also a very big problem communicating with players, giving commands doesn't seem to excist and the teamwork-based modes are just getting something like a hide-and-seek game, which is pretty sad since the game has alot of Multiplayer potential.
And on the positive side, the game offers excellent weapon models and simply Amazing explosions - though the sounds tend to cut into each other or just stop very rapidly, which pulls down the general quality of the game quite much since it's otherwisely a very polished product.
Running with High Settings, Medium physics, no xAA and 4xAF textures, Extreme Audio Quality and EAX with about a 40-60FPS. When decreasing the textures down to Trilinear it boosts performance with this rig with about 5-6FPS, nothing too dramatical.
The rig playing on is based as follows...
PSU: 530W Hiper w/modular cables
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3700+ (2250mhz, slightly damaged from unsuccesful overclocking)
Video Card: Gigabyte nVidia GeForce 7600GT, 256mb, 128-bit GDDR-3. (PCI-E)
RAM: 1024mb DDR400mhz
Mobo: nForce-4 GA-K8NF-9, Socket 939
Audio Card: Creative SoundsBlaster X-fi Xtreme Gamer (using CMSS-3D, 100% Crystalizer, the game supports Extreme audio quality only by supported high-end audio cards)
HDD: 200GB 7200RPM - IDE-based - unspecific model.
Throwing in a basic Dual-Core processor and a 512MB higher-end in the mainstream video card series will totally punch up this game to kick over 100FPS at these settings, but would also work well at 16xAF and maybe even offer playability using 2- or 4xAA - but for xAA I recommend a higher-end card so it don't kick down the frame-rates too badly it kills the gaming experience.
