  • Read Bob Walkenhorst's ( the writer of this song)take on what he meant: "Back in the 1980s, cheese that was passed out in the governments food commodities program seemed to symbolize a society that just tried to do the minimum to keep people quiet and pacified, rather than actually help people overcome poverty and adversity. Whether it was cheese, or drugs, or religion, or mindless entertainment, the message was, Resist that; get busy and move forward. As quoted in Reason.

  • @docjimm I saw the Rainmakers on UK TV when 22. Awesome. Bought all their records-CD's weren't around then, right? Had their cassettes too so could listen to them on my Walkman! Cassettes?! Was lucky enough to see them live once in the UK. Then i took a trip to the States. Caught the Amtrack from Boston to Chicago, to Topeka, Kansas, then Geyhound to Tulsa to visit my uncle. Went to Dallas, the Grand Canyon and LA listening to the Rainmakers all the way. Now i'm 42! Glad to share them with you.

  • 4 people want to raise taxes on the top 2% wealthiest Americans!

  • they are more the "republicans" of rock not just this song...many

  • @kodyman20 southpark!

  • Ah...saw them at the Blue Note (in Columbia, MO) one night in '85..."Who's playing?" "I don't know, some band with three guys' names..." It was Steve, Bob & Rich, it was their first time there, there were about 25 people when they started playing, many more by closing. That was a Friday night. On Saturday night, you were lucky to get in the door. Loved 'em ever since. Always will.

  • @revolvement Well said. I rember Bob W. writing letter to Rolling Stone Magazine saying that people missed the sarcasm in his lyrics. Does anyone know which issue that was?
