Sierra Railway (SERA) have opted out of the operations on the Santa Cruz Branch at end of December, so the GP20u that was running there got ferried between Watsonville and Roseville. I caught the SERA 50 in several locations, being placed amongst the boxcars.

Sorry to see the Santa Cruz branch having so many problems, but I know this is nothing new. Has Newark yard become more prominent under UP ownership? I remember it being kind of a stepchild in the 70's, but I liked train watching out there because SP was still running trains over the Dumbarton bridge. I just wish the pictures i took back then were of quality.

Sierra Northern was the one that abandoned the contract, they will not be coming back. Fortunately, Sierra has reopened one of their lumber mills a couple months back, and should balance this out.

I find it weird that UP ran in in the middle of the train, rather than behind the UP power.

@BWyrick: UP will temporarily run the branch, but I haven't heard any news on who is going to get the contract.
