GuQin Foldable Dulcimer - This is a custom instrument I built for a gentleman that is loosely based upon an ancient Chinese instrument called a GuQin. Notice the Harmonic Node Markers instead of fret dots and the fact that it is fretless.

Features:
• Fretless
• Harmonic Node Markers
• Steinberger Locking Headless Tuners
• Pickups in the Bridge AND the Nut
• Patent Applied For bridge plate with Ghost Piezo saddles
• Master volume to control both the bridge and the nut at the same time
• Volume control placed to allow Volume Swells with the thumb
• Folds in half to make it small enough to fit in carry-on luggage (Folded Size: 17" long x 7.5" wide x 5.5" tall)

  • Wow Quintin. You are an amazingly innovative luthier. Thanks for taking the risks and stepping way outside the box. - Dan L.

  • Thanks, Dan! I always try to push the envelope as far as it can go. It seems like that's what the young players were looking for in the last issue of DPN.

The dulcimer is so dear to me and such a large part of my life that I like to spend my waking hours up to my armpits in something to do with it.

Plus it is always a blast to work on something where you learn a little, too.

  • How can his fingering be 'wrong' when it is not a qin but a custom instrument?

  • Guqin is 3000 years old, not a thousand to 2.

  • I am interested in this instrument how much does it cost? Does it plays like a guqin?

  • could've made the nut a little thicker so it would jam right in the slot
