The Cambridge Singers perform the 8-part and the most famous setting of Antonio Lotti's (1667-1740) Crucifixus, from the Nicene Creed.

Latin:
Crucifixus etiam pro nobis.
Sub Pontio Pilato, passus et se pultus est.

English:
[He was] crucified even for us, under Pontius Pilate:
[he] suffered and was buried.

  • This is polyphonic candy.

  • We're doing this in Madrigals at our high school. Go Soprano 1s! I LOVE the dissonance in this piece. It's pretty much a chord-gasm throughout the whole thing :)

  • I still have that sheet music. I miss choir SOOOO much. I tried out for the Midstate All State Choir while in highschool. I didn't make it in because I can't read notes because I do everything by ear, but it was worth it.

  • absolutly stunning!

  • Wow. That's all I have to say. Wow.

  • The choir i am in is working on this song, amazing piece. Im really exhited to sing this. Sounds great! :)

  • @digimontrainer12 The absence of vibrato is intentional. Didn't you know that? It's part of the choral tradition of English choral music (not to mention music of this period generally)--to sing with minimal vibrato. That practice is considered to allow clarity to this complex polyphonic music, which if sung with excessive vibrato, would lose said clarity entirely, and would be 'muddied' with a chaos of competing warbles ...

  • what amazing breath support!

  • i thiaaen bakk himseeaelf wououould heve said in the musical offering : COOORRREEEE ! !!! ! ! ! !
