Lotte, an ocelot, was illegaly captured in the wild in Panama -her mother probably shot by poachers. She was bought by people who wanted her as a pet, but soon were frightened by her already sharp teeth and claws, even as a cub. For 9 months, she was locked up in a tiny cage in a dark shed before she was rescued and brought in to Paradise Garden animal shelter, near Boquete, Panama. After months of physiotherapy, she learnt to walk again, but will never be able to be released into the wild: she can't hunt and is too accustomed to people.
