This popular early 70s Gerry Anderson created tv show from the legendary ITC stable featured a quality soundtrack from british composer and arranger John Cameron - while the mitch murray/peter calander penned theme song 'Avenues and alleyways' was an international hit for Tony Christie.

John Cameron also scored the 1969 Ken Loach film 'Kes' and was responsible for the instrumental version of led zepplin's 'whole lotta love' which served as the theme tune to the popular british music show Top of The Pops during th 1970s. He also arranged music for successful britsh acts such as donovan, cilla black and Hot chocolate and scored the cult british 1972 horror movie 'Psychomania'.

The show featured the exploits of the london based cell of an international crime fighting organisation known simply as the Protectors. Robert Vaughan (harry rule), Nyree Dawn Porter (contessa di contini) and Tony Anholt (paul buchet) made up the crime fighting team which regularly saw them visiting exotic locations all over europe, such as rome, barcelona, paris and salzburg.

Sadly of the main cast only Robert Vaughan survives - Nyree Dawn Porter passing away in 2001 and Tony Anholt succumbing to a brain tumour a year later. While the whereabouts of 'Gus' - harry rule's huge and troublesome irish wolfhound - are not known.....:)

  • Thank God for the internet!!!

  • Oh my gosh! This is the first time I have heard this theme since CKLW TV would run this show on Saturday nights back in 1974. ( I remember seeing the open of this show last on the April 20th show as I was leaving the house with my dad to my favourite restaurant. ) That night, when I came back, my mom told me how worried she had that me and Dad had wandered off without telling her bye bye. Cool song.
