  • Definitely Mo can be the best possible MORAL GUIDE****

****For Mass murderers, Tyrants, Demagogues, Warlords, Narcissists, Cultists, Rapists, Pedophiles, Homophobes, Polygamists, Perverts, Domestic Abusers, Pirates, Dacoits, Psychopaths and Charlatans..

  • I saw that wife mentioned in his Wiki biography, which also says that she was 16 when they married, while her own Wiki bio states she was born in 1916, married him in 1929. So just do the math. Also interesting, the French version of Wiki gives 1913 as her birth year. A few sites list 1915, but most say 1916, married at 12 or 13. It looks like AHA was off by 3 years. I think her point would have been just about as persuasive if she'd said "a 13 year old girl" --tho 13 is less creepy than 9.

  • @saigonbill "Khadijeh Saqafi (a. k. a. Ghods Iran Saqafi) (1916 – March 21, 2009) was the Iranian wife of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the leader of the 1979 Iran Revolution.... Saqafi married Ruhollah Khomeini in 1929" - which would have made Khadijeh Saqafi 12/13 years old and Khomeini would have been 27/28 years old.

  • In this interview though she stated that Khomeini himself married a 9 year old. That's the pnly part I was wondering about. There are plenty of mentions of Khomeini doing this or that nasty thing according to some source or another, but these are all on (what look to me like) very partisan websites, nothing about it in mainstream media. I'd b surprised if she were relying on sources like those, but who knows. If it's dubious, Zakaria needed to follow up on it. With his background he should know.

  • @saigonbill I'm not sure that Wikipedia is considered to be a 'respected source' though... and looking elsewhere, one would need to keep in mind that the majority of information out there, regarding this topic, is extremely biased.

  • @saigonbill “Marriage age reverted to 9 for girls. Restrictions on polygamy and temporary marriages were repealed. Women lost the right to divorce and to child custody. The mehrieh (marriage portion payable to the wife) was taxed above the level considered customary by the government. Male judges only were appointed to all courts”.

  • @saigonbill “The Family Protection Act was abrogated right after the 1979 revolution. The new regime reinstated the primacy of men within the institution of the family, reinforcing patriarchal norms and notions such as, “man is the head of the family”, “woman is the second sex”, and “women and children are the property of the men in the family".

  • @saigonbill Ruhollah Khomeini was “an Iranian religious leader and politician, and leader of the 1979 Iranian Revolution... Following the revolution, Khomeini became the country's Supreme Leader".

  • @saigonbill - She lied there as did on asylum application.
