Another tragedy of this movie is the story of James Hayden, who played "Patsy" Goldberg. He died of a drug overdose 2 months before the movie was released. He was also a good friend of Al Pacino, who tried to get him the role of "Manny" in Scarface. He did "Once Upon A Time in America" instead. He died b4 the premiere. Remember the scene when he shoots the guy in the eye on a diamond buy? He said "kid's stuff" then shot him?
Mickey Rourke dedicated 'Pope of Greenwich Village' role to Hayden.

This is still one of my fave movies. It was ruined by Hollywood when it was released in theater's & it bombed. Because they cut the original 3hr 30min 'directors cut', edited down to 2 hrs by H-wood exec's. It ruined it. When this vid came out, they had both versions. If u get a chance, watch both. You'll get a good idea on how Hollywood makes so much crap.
Jews monopolized the industry & rarely accept new ideas. Especially from a non-jew. They're racist, but if u point it out, they crucify u.

For me, the childhood scenes were the best acted, most engaging, and most moving. I feel that in the the 1930's scenes especially, the dialogue was bad, scenes were stretched out, the actors tried to make something good of it as best they could. Several actors were miscast. Elizabeth McGovern is criticized for her portrayal of Deborah, but it was a difficult role and it is known that De Niro was unhappy with her casting. The casting of Forsyth as "Cockeye" was horrendous. Not even remotely kosher

Her nudity was actually a body double, but thanks for playing.

I checked with the help of Internet, she gave her nude scene at the age of 14..... now u can understand what type of culture Americans have.......

@utubegod35 Maybe not attractive in the traditional sense, but I think she was cast well. She's sort of like Noodle's "Rosebud", that thing from his childhood he clings on to throughout the entirety of his life. Even if she's not as attractive as Noodles remembered, he still has the memories. That being said I really don't think she's "ugly" but to each his own I guess.

She saw her future with Noodles. She didn't want any part of it.
