From Episode 1839: Bert is supposed to represent love in Prairie Dawn's latest pageant, but the lines he's been given feel phony. He asks Prairie to substitute an original song about what love means to him; that works out well with the cast, but Bert still has ONE problem with his role... ;-)

NOTE: According to Muppet Wiki, this clip has appeared as early as Episode 1736.

  • Well, I hardly blame Bert. I don't think I could sing such a heartfelt song dressed like that.

  • What I want to know is...who wrote Bert's original lines? And I understand about the costume. If Statler and Waldorf showed up, Bert would be a VERY easy target.

  • I think that Bert was cute with that outfit! hee hee hee!

I've seen this video version of Portugal and tried to see in English and I loved everything he said,I did not think he would talk to Ernie and it was then that I loved even more!

Bert was sensational the way he always is! Also loved to see him angry in the end, not to lose the habit!

About Ernie,I think weird he help organize for some reason ... hahaha

  • Awww...that's so sweet.

And for some reason the way Telly said, "That was really great, Bert," struck me as hilarious. XD

  • @Garrettk41 Somehow that gold hair fits bert and matches him fine

  • @efil4own1: Not to mention the letter 'W' (judging by Bert's club membership), bottle caps (as seen in countless skits), and marching-band music (confirned in at least two songs). But I can see two good reasons for Bert not to mention letters or numbers in the list of things he loves: (1) they'd distract kids from the central theme of the sketch (love itself); and (2) the sketch would be harder to use on episodes with different sponsors.

  • @LincolnHeightsrocks: Yeah, this would've been perfect for a crossover episode like that; it's one of the few times that Bert and Ernie get along, and break out of "strictly for kids" educational mode.

  • @1RichardHunt I thought about writing a bit where Bert meets Fozzie for the first time, and Bert thinks Fozzie is making fun of the way he talks.

Funny, Bert didn't mention his other passions: argyle socks, saddle shoes, the letter 'I', and the number 6.

  • @LincolnHeightsrocks The Muppets will always be buds. They could do this idea at any time. No federal court case can pull them apart forever.

  • Oh my god he sure does.

  • Your'e right. And that gets me thinking, when Bert and Ernie appeared on the Muppet show during its first season, this would have been a great closing number for that show. They could have had Rowlf in Prarie Dawn's place playing the Piano, and Gonzo in Telly's place. It would fit perfect since the original Gonzo and the original Telly were very similar in charachter.
