Congestion in Copenhagen (YIKES: BIKES)

Tens of thousands of people commute by bike each day via Torvegade in Copenhagen. Here's the crush of rush hour - sure beats the honking and fumes of rush hour in NYC!

OK, I have to admit, I had a little help. This was the backup resulting from the raising of the Knippelsbro drawbridge. It took quite a while to clear the backup (note how orderly everyone is, for the most part staying in the bike lane) - and there isn't much of a backup of cars or trucks!

@j4pan Yeah, you just keep living in the good ol USA, where you cant afford health care, and you want to fight wars so you can be reliant on all that foreign oil!

USA oil peaked in 1970, so if you want a car culture, keep on being prepared to sacrafice the lives of your young people to get your hands on that cheap foreign oil! Keep having those oil rigs destroying your natural areas as well.

@333tanx You took the words right out of my mouth. I live in Canada and it is just too American, especially with our current Government. America is a social cancer, despite a minority of intelligent people who see this, it cannot be stopped because, as in Canada, most have their heads in the sand. Can you believe my government is bringing in a tough on crime bill! America has the most archaic system and we want to follow THEIR lead? Be glad you have an enlightened society Europe.

@mausimau84 There is evidence to suggest that wearing a bike helmet can increase the chances of being involved in a collision. As protection against contact with motorised transport they are useless. What next, helmets for pedestrians? Cycling is popular in Denmark because it's so normal & everyday, with no special equipment required.
