Why cutting in October? Azaleas bloom on the stems grown the previous year, so, as a rule of thumb you must prune them (if you want) as soon as they've stopped blooming. So, yes, cut them in the Autumn if you don't want any flowers the next year :-)

I brought my azalea in the house i wish i would have planted them in the ground mine didnt last in the house =( it was so beautiful though a nice pink/peach color.
