Azaleas should be pruned every year or two, and the pruning should never cut the plant down more than a third. Prune azaleas down to the first limb with tips from an experienced gardener in this free video on planting flowers and gardening.

  • Why cutting in October? Azaleas bloom on the stems grown the previous year, so, as a rule of thumb you must prune them (if you want) as soon as they've stopped blooming. So, yes, cut them in the Autumn if you don't want any flowers the next year :-)

  • I brought my azalea in the house i wish i would have planted them in the ground mine didnt last in the house =( it was so beautiful though a nice pink/peach color.

  • I bought 3 the other day and planted......When is a good time to prune? Fall or after all the flower fall off? Please help.
