Yes, he recorded the Fourth Ballade from the Chopin Competition under the Maxell japanese label. I bought it from a chinese website after he won the competition. And yes, he got the boot from DG because he kept on playing the same program; he was scheduled to play Beethoven but instead played some pieces he had already played from the year before. His repertoire is limited. Maybe he needs some time off to learn more music.

I used to think so too, but now Yundi Li is using the mass media over in China, so he's not much less commercial than Lang Lang. And the size of his repertoire is really underwhelming.

He's a Chopin/Liszt 'specialist', yet he hasn't performed nor recorded a single Hungarian Rhapsody, Ballad, or Transcendental Etude.

Still, Yundi Li is usually the more serious interpreter - he doesn't do bizarre things like Lang Lang is wont to do.

i've been to lang lang's concerts, he's full on nuts when he's playing...O__O" his face was really exaggerating... i don't think it's necessary to exaggerate THAT much in order to express ur feelings..well i suppose he's just trying to entertain the audience..

It's Chopin's piano concerto no1 in E minor opus 11, 3rd movement.
