@Edgehead10075 I believe a form of democratic socialism would work better than free capitalism; especially when the corporations have become too big to fail. The best plan should be a combination of trimming the fat and taxing the rich. The problem is that cutting on spending usually translates to eliminating public services; which only really hurts the middle class. I mean, when the top 1% has more wealth than the bottom 95% combined there's a problem. What happens when resources are limited?

Why not cut spending instead of raising taxes? There is so much wasteful spending. Raising taxes just gives the government another excuse to spend like crazy.

You are totally wrong about the middle class being "heavily taxed." On the average, the rich pay much more in taxes than the midle class. In fact, 46% of Americans don't pay any federal income taxes.

@Edgehead10075 The economy is broken. The federal government is in a ridiculous amount of debt. The best way to increase the federal revenue is to increase taxation. The problem is that the middle working class is the only strata that gets heavily taxed. Because of the inequality of the distribution of wealth, it only makes sense that the richest get the largest taxes; particularly when it's so easy to hide it all from uncle sam legally.

americans are afraid of anything attatched to socialism even tough every other industrialised western nation has a socialistic style health care system, it doesnt make their country socialist though! @slashboy346 lol yeah, I know. But what she means by socialism is actually social democracy. Center-to-left parties have governed Chile for 20 years and it is still the freest economy in Latin America. They just managed to combine the best of the two systems (economic prosperity and poverty reduction).
