Finnish Lapphunds aren't really used as a guard dog but they are trustworthy with sheep and other stock. They are reindeer herding dogs, they don't herd like a Border Collie, more of a gatherer. Our Finnish Lapphunds live harmoniously with cats and Poms, as well as with 1 Akita. They are not dog aggressive. I think we have herding video uploaded from most of our 8 Lappies from that day. If you look, Sony and Niisku were exceptional herders.
Have they been used in actual sheepherding competitions?

Very interesting. Can they guard sheep and be left alone with them as well or not?
