Don't you think, that Horowitz uses a bit more pedal in this interpretation just because acoustic of this hall is too dry for this Sonata ? :) I think so.

The reality is that in spite of his skill, he gave obscene performances. Like that monster Glenn Gould, if his shows were billed as "this is my ego speaking" then it would have been more honest. Horowitz thought that his presentation was more important than a composers music. Style over substance.
