don't understand why there is so much heated debate over the "right" way to play it. To me it's simple: play it the way you think it should be played. When the same piece is interpreted the exact same way the next 100 times, that's the beginning of the end of arts.

You know Horowitz always traveled with his own Steinway, correct? One of the primary reasons he achieved the sound that he did is because he had the piano doctored. He had the felt on the hammers shaved down to give the instrument a bigger sound. It also helped create that very unique, slightly metallic tone that is heard in every Horowitz performance.

Please excuse ..... but I will take Rubenstein over Horowitz. But then is Zimmerman is in a class all His own. Clear crystal notes. the lower keys not muddied, but just clear thunder sound echoing.
